MadeReps Recruiting · Parent + Player Roadmap

Recruiting makes more sense when you see it from the coach’s side.

This is not a promise of a scholarship and it is not a list of “hacks.” It is a practical guide to how college coaches evaluate players, how families should communicate, what film should show, how to build a realistic school list, and how the player gradually takes ownership of the process.

COLLEGE-COACH PERSPECTIVE
What families need

Less noise. Better decisions.

Recruiting is not one email, one tournament or one highlight reel. It is a sequence of evaluation, fit, communication, roster need, academics and timing.

What coaches evaluateSkill, decision-making, athletic tools, positional fit, defense, competitiveness, coachability, academics and whether the roster actually needs that player.
How to be recruitableUseful film, accurate information, a realistic school list, clear communication and enough consistency for a staff to keep evaluating.
How not to waste timeStop mass-emailing schools with no fit, chasing only logos, over-editing film, making parents the permanent spokesperson or treating every silence as rejection.

The five-part recruiting test

Can the coach quickly identify the player?
Graduation year, position, height, school/club, location and contact information should be easy to find.
Can the coach evaluate real basketball?
Highlights help, but extended game clips and full-game context matter because coaches evaluate decisions and possessions—not only makes.
Is the school actually a fit?
Basketball level, roster need, academics, geography, cost and campus fit all matter.
Is the communication useful?
Short, specific, current and easy to act on beats long recruiting biographies.
Is the player taking increasing ownership?
Parents can organize early, but the player should increasingly write, call, ask questions and make decisions.
